A sophisticated fraudulent email campaign targeting the title community was detailed in an Oct. 3 account from Premier One Chief Revenue Officer Shawn Fox.
According to Fox, the fraudulent email is circulating with the subject line, “You have a new Title & Closing request from the Encompass Title Center.”
This email is harvesting multi-factor authorization (MFA) tokens, Fox added.
“Please be advised that this email is not from us or any legitimate source. It looks like it’s coming from Ellie Mae; it’s not,” he said in the email. “It is designed to deceive recipients into disclosing sensitive information.”
He urged industry peers to take the following precautions:
- Do not click on links or attachments: Avoid clicking on any links or downloading attachments from suspicious emails.
- Verify the source: If you receive an unexpected email regarding title and closing requests, please verify its authenticity by reaching out to known contacts within your team directly, using contact information you have on record.
- Report suspicious emails: Forward any questionable emails to your IT Security Team.
“We are actively monitoring the situation and working to protect our clients from these fraudulent activities,” Fox said. “Your security and privacy are of utmost importance to us. If you have any concerns or need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.”
